Sports: Indian team in second round

London, July 5 : The Indian duo Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi advanced into the Wimbledon mixed doubles second round with a 6-3, 6-4 win over David Skoch of Czech Republic and Janette Husarova of Slovakia.

Sania and Bhupathi, who teamed up for the first time in a Grand Slam event, will now play against Marcin Matkowski of Poland and Cara Black of Zimbabwe in their next match.

Bhupathi is only competing in mixed doubles at this year's Wimbledon while the Hyderabadi girl has already lost in the singles and doubles category.

London, July 8 : Curtains came down on Indian challenge at Wimbledon with the last man standing, Leander Paes and his American partner Meghann Shaughnessy losing to an unseeded French duo of Fabrice Santoro and Severine Bremond in a mixed doubles quarterfinal here. The eighth seeded Indo-American pair squandered a set advantage to go down 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, courtesy an erratic service and a number of unforced errors. The duo committed 17 unforced errors.....

London, July 6 : Leander Paes and Meghann Shaughnessy of USA notched up an easy 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jaroslav Levinsky and Renata Voracova of Czecch Replubic to sail into Wimbledon mixed doubles pre-quaterfinals here. The Indo-US duo will now meet 12th seeded Todd Perry of Australia and Chia-Jung Chuang of Chinese Taipei for a place in last eight. Eighth seeded Paes and Shaughnessy took just 35 minutes to demolish their unseeded opponents......
