HC stays permission to Indore medical college

Jabalpur, July 5: The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the Centre not to grant permission to open a private medical college in Indore till facilities as per the Medical Council of India norms were provided.

A division bench of Chief Justice Anang Kumar Patnaik and Justice Ajit Singh issued the directive yesterday after hearing the plea of Jabalpur-based Arvind Mishra, who claimed that MCI norms were not fulfilled so far in the construction of the medical college, being set up by Mayank Welfare Society.

The bench ordered the Centre not to issue the 'Letter of Intent for opening of the college without the court's permission.

The petitioner told the court that the Society had managed to get permission from the state government to start the Index Medical College Hospital and Research Centre in 2007 without spot verification and furnished false information about provision for 300 beds, while facilities for less than 200 beds were ready at present.
