Hosanagar receives 21 cm rain

Bangalore, July 3 (UNI) Following is a summary of observations recorded by the weather office at 0830 hours today.

Rainfall occurred at most places over Coastal Karnataka and at a few places over Interior Karnataka.

Very Heavy rainfall amounts (cm): Hosanagar 21; Linganamakki 18; Kollur, Bhagamandala, Kammardi 13 each.

Heavy rainfall amounts (cm): Siddapura, Kottigehara, Agumbe 10 each; Jayapura 9; Sirsi, Sringeri 8 each; Dharmasthala, Subramanya, Bhatkal, Sagar, Koppa 7 each.

Other chief rainfall amounts (cm): Bantwal, Mani, Belthangadi, Yellapura, Sakleshpura, Shirali, Madikeri 6 each; Puttur, Banavasi, Khanapur, Virajpet, Tyagarthi, Humchadakatte, Soraba 5 each; Sulya, Karkala, Madapura, Ponampet, Talaguppa, Thirthahalli, Balehonnur 4 each; Kumta, Kiravatti, Kalghatgi, Somwarpet, N.R.Pura, Ballupet, Mangalore, Karwar 3 each.

Forecast valid until Thursday morning: Rain/thundershowers likely to occur at most places over Coastal Karnataka; at many places over South Interior Karnataka and at a few places over North Interior Karnataka.

Farmers Weather Bulletin: Moderate to rather heavy rain likely to occur at most places over Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikmagalur, Hassan, Kodagu, Shimoga districts and at many places over Belgaum, Dharwad, Haveri districts. Light to moderate rain likely to occur at a few places over remaining districts of the State.

Heavy rainfall warning: Heavy to very heavy rain may occur at isolated places over Coastal Karnataka and ghat areas of South Interior Karnataka during next 48 hours.

Fisheries warning: Strong onshore winds from westerly direction speed occasionally reaching forty five to fifty five kmph likely along off Karnataka coast during next 24 hours.

Forecast for Bangalore city: Generally cloudy. One or two spells of rain likely. Surface winds will be strong and gusty at times.

Qualcomm-Tata Teleservices launch Fisher Friend

New Delhi, Aug 2: Aimed at helping the fishermen community, Qualcomm today launched a new BREW-based mobile application, Fisher Friend, which will provide information about the weather, risks, opportunities and market information in local languages. Developed in collaboration with Tata Teleservices, Astute System Technology and M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF), ''the application is currently under trial on the Tata Teleservices network in Tamil Nadu and will later be extended to other coastal areas,'' said.....
