A teenage pilgrim died on way to Amarnath cave

Srinagar, June 25: A 14-year-old girl, daughter of a senior army officer, was killed after falling from a horse at Bararimarg on Baltal- holy Amarnath cave shrine, official sources said today.

Chitra Mohindra, daughter of Colonel Davinder Kumar, resident of Delhi, presently at Awantipora, was on way to the cave shrine when she fell down from a horse.

She was critically wounded after her head fell on a sharp stone, according to sources she died before she could be shifted to base hospital set up at Baltal.

Though the two-month-long annual Amarnath pilgrimage to holy cave will start from June 30, about two thousand pilgrims were visiting the cave daily from shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes.

The rush of pilgrims registered sharp increase during the past three days, sources said.

Meanwhile, helicopter service to the cave shrine started from Baltal.
