Nikkei up 0.6 pc as Canon, other exporters rise

Tokyo, June 15: The Nikkei average gained 0.58 percent on Friday with high-tech exporters such as Canon Inc. extending their gains following a rise in US stocks and on a weaker yen.

The Nikkei share average was up 103.55 points at 17,945.84 as of 0001 GMT, and the broader TOPIX index added 0.50 percent to 1,765.46.

Tokyo, May 21: The Nikkei average rose 0.56 per cent on Monday as shares of Sony Corp. kept gaining on its earnings outlook, helped by the yen's fall to a record low against the euro. Broader gains were limited, however, as investors remained cautious following an early sell-off in Shanghai stocks. Investors, particularly short-term traders, were concerned about the performance of Chinese stocks after the central bank raised interest rates on Friday, analysts.....

Hitachi posts loss, sees recovery on cost cuts

Tokyo, May 16: Hitachi Ltd. posted a large loss on Wednesday on its struggling hard drive and thermal power plant units, but the deficit was smaller than expected and it forecast a return to profit this year as it cuts costs. The announcement sent Hitachi shares up 2.2 percent to 898 yen at 0510 GMT. The benchmark Nikkei average was up 0.2 percent. Hitachi, which makes products ranging from nuclear turbines to washing.....
