Bangalore, June 14: The Karnataka government today ruled out introduction of sex education in schools following widespread protest against the move.
Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj Horatti told newspersons here that Union Human Resources Ministry under the Adolescence Education Programme had sent a set of material for implementation of sex education.
After perusing the material the state government found the material to be objectionable and not acceptable to the local contexts, he pointed out.
The tool kit developed by the National Aids Control Organisation in collaboration with other organisations contained many obscene charts and were against the cultural ethos of school children, he said adding that he would write a letter to the Union Ministry regarding the state government's decision on introduction of sex education.
Mr Horatti said the state government had already introduced a Life Skill education at high school level three years ago in place of sex education to focus on health care of children.
The introduction of Life Skill education was based on a report from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurological Sciences here, he added.
