EMRI, SSM to launch course in emergency care

Chennai, June 10: Emergency Management and Research Institute (EMRI), a Hyderabad-based organisation and Stanford School of Medicine (SSM) have tied-up to launch a first of its kind two-year full time Post Graduate (PG) programme in emergency care from July 16.

Under the agreement with EMRI, Stanford would develop an educational curriculam and train 150 paramedics and 30 advanced clinical educators over a two-year period in India.

Talking to newspersons here last night, EMRI Chairman Ramalinga Raju said ''the two-year PG programme in emergency care covers extensive clinical knowledge while educating and training students in developing skills in leadership, communication and education in emergency management''.

''A variety of instructional strategies and technologies will be used to teach students about emergency medical service operations and patient care'', he said, adding ''the course of instructions would cover 'didactic' material to understand the purpose and objectives of clinical treatments, which will be done senior clinicians and teachers from stanford''.

Mr Raju said ''apart from this, laboratory training provides safe and effective opportunity for students to develop physchomotor skill and apply concepts to clinical decision-making''.

''Clinical and field training will also provide opportunity to develop and apply clinical knowledge and skills to the actual treatment of emergency patients'', he said, adding these experience were designed to refine skills and the students would have the opportunity to rotate through some of the nation's most respected hospitals and emergency medical services.

Summative field internship would provide opportunity to student to serve as a team leader and demonstrate their knowledge and skills in the role of an emergency care provider, he pointed out.
