Hyderabad, June 8: Former Union Minister and BJP Telangana Udyama Committee Chairman Ch Vidyasagar Rao today urged Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamad to take all possible measures to rescue the natives of Karimnagar who had migrated to cyclone-affected Oman.

In a telephonic conversation, Mr Rao told Mr Ahamad that since the victims were mostly from the rural areas of Karimnagar, it had become difficult to get information of their well-being.

Assuring all possible help, Mr Ahamad said he would meet External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee today to discuss the plight of Indians trapped in Oman. Since a large number of Indians have lost their properties and passports, the Centre was planning to take special measures to help them, a statement issued here said.

He said the Government was also planning to bring back all those people rendered homeless and helpless by the cyclone.

Mr Rao also wrote a letter to Mr Ahamad, requesting him to ask the Indian embassy officials in Oman to gather information about the poor migrants from Karimnagar in Andhra Pradesh and pass it on to the District Collector so that he might inform their relatives.

He also urged him to instruct the Indian Ambassador to Oman to open a special cell to communicate information about the well-being of Indians there. He demanded monetary and logistics support for the cyclone-affected Indians.
