State registers 64.25 pass percentage in HSC exams

Pune, June 8 (UNI) Maharashtra registered an overall pass percentage of 64.25 per cent in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams of the Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary Board (MSSHSB) of which the results that were declared here today.

MSSHSB Chairman Vijaysheela Sardesai told mediapersons that as always girls had fared better than boys in the HSC exams. The girls secured a pass percentage of 71 per cent as against boys who were down with 58 per cent.

She said sports students were awarded an additional 25 marks this year.

The subject-wise pass percentage is as follows: Science-83.37 per cent, Arts-65.13 per cent, Commerce-81.53 per cent , MCVC-63.53 per cent. However, the Business Management course registered a high pass percentage of 90 per cent.

In the State, Mumbai division continued to dominate with a pass percentage of 76.67 per cent, followed by Pune 71.09, Kolhapur 68.70, Latur 64.46, Aurangabad 64.07, Nashik 60.28, Amravati 51.08, Nagpur 47.45 per cent.

A total of 10,39,223 students registered while 10,21,581 students appeared and 6,56,334(64.25 per cent) passed in the examination.

China lacks moral ground to be 'super power'

Brussels, Dec 5: Tibetan spiritual leader, The Dalai Lama, has said that if China wants to be seen as a super power in the 21st century, it has to first acquire and improve its moral authority.Addressing the European Parliament here, the Dalai Lama said on China: "One important factor is moral authority and that is lacking. Because of its very poor record on human rights and religious freedom and freedom of expression and freedom of the press - too much.....
