Security beefed up along Indo-Nepal border

Darjeeling, Jun 8 (UNI) Security arrangements along the Indo-Nepal border have been beefed up following reports of fresh Bhutanese infiltration.

Indian security agencies have been cautioned that the Bhutanese refugees living in Eastern Nepal would make out some other trails to enter Bhutan via India.

Following the alert, the Sashastra Seema Bal(SSB) and West Bengal Police were jointly conducting cordon operations along the border sectors.

West Bengal Home Secretary Amit Kiran Deb said here yesterday that he would take up the issue with the district administration.

An officer of the state intelligence department said, ''A notice has come from the Centre mentioning that the refugees would try to enter the country from other trails.

''We are keeping a close watch on the border areas along with the SSB to prevent any infiltration from the refugees,'' said Darjeeling district police chief Rajesh Subarno.

The SSB was deputed on the Indo-Nepal border for guarding the nation's territory.

On May 28, the Bhutanese refugees were involved in skirmishes with the Indian security agencies while trying to cross over to Bhutan to participate in the mock election there. The security forces had to fire 40 rounds then.
