Punjab govt seeks cancellation of Amarinder's bail

New Delhi, June 8: The Punjab government has moved the Supreme Court for cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and his wife Preneet Kaur in Ludhiana City Centre (LCC) scandal by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on April 5.

The state government, in its appeal against the High Court order, has contended that the accused persons, including Amarinder Singh, were not cooperating with the State Vigilance Bureau during interrogation in the Rs 1200 crore scandal, and custodial interrogation of the two accused is a must.

The petition also contains graphic details of the deposits made in the account of Raninder Singh, son of Amarinder Singh, between March 2005 to April 2006. An amount of Rs 20 crore was deposited in eight installments.

The state government has placed on record the letter written by Capt Singh to Congress president Sonia Gandhi saying that the case of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal shall be sent back by the Supreme Court for resumption of trial under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The state government has expressed surprise how Capt Singh knew about the Supreme Court judgement before it was pronounced as the letter was written in September 2006 after the Supreme Court had reserved its judgement on the petition of Mr Badal and other political leaders and the judgement was pronounced in December 2006.

Capt Singh and his family members are facing allegations of illegally making Rs 100 cr in the LCC project under which the biggest shopping centre was to be constructed on 26 acre of land.

The other accused in the case include former Punjab Minister Choudhary Jagjeet Singh, former Press Advisor to Capt Singh B I S Chahal and Raminder Singh, brother-in-law of Raninder Singh.
