Lifetime Achievement Award for Prof U R Rao

Hassan (Karnataka), June 8: President A P J Abdul Kalam today presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to renowned Space Scientist Prof U R Rao. The award, instituted by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), carried Rs 20 lakh in cash and a citation. Mr Kalam also presented Outstanding Achievement Awards, carrying Rs ten lakh in cash and a citation, to five scientists -- N Pant, S C Gupta, E V Chitnis, B N Suresh and P S Goel.

Performance Excellence Awards, carrying Rs five lakh each and a citation, were given away to nine scientists and Merit Awards with a purse of Rs one lakh each to 17 young scientists.

ISRO introduced its Annual Awards in 2006 to motivate high performance among scientists, engineers and others in recognition of their contribution in advanced critical technologies and state-of-the-art space and ground systems, products and services and management.

Young Scientist Merit Award: Abhishek Kumar (ISAC), M S Anurup (VSSC), Gagan Bansal (NRSA) Jiju John (LEOS), A Latha (SDSC), V Manavala Ramanujam (SAC), Minal Sampath (SAC), Rinku Agarwal (SAC), Dr K Pramod Kumar (ADRIN), M Ramesh (SDSC), R Ranjit (LEOS), A R Rekha (IISU), Ritu Karidhal (ISAC), B N Sharma (SAC), Shashank Saxena (SAC), P A Srinivasa (SDSC), P Srinivasa Rao (SDSC) and K Vijayalakshmi (ISAC).

Term Excellence Awards: Space Capsule Recovery Experiment, Cartosat-2, PSLV, CAPE&DMS, INSAT 2E on-orbit management.
