Prof U R Rao conferred with Life Time Achievement Award

Hassan, Karnataka, June 8 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam today presented Life time Achievement Award to renowned Space Scientist Prof U R Rao.

The award, instituted by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) carried Rs 20 lakh cash and a citation.

Mr Kalam also presented Outstanding Achievement Awards carrying Rs 10 lakhs each and citation to five Scientists -- N Pant, S C Gupta, E V Chitnis, B N Suresh and P S Goel.

Performance Excellence Awards carrying Rs five lakh each and a citation was given away to Nine Scientists and Merit Awards carrying Rs One lakh each to 17 young scientists.

ISRO introduced Annual Awards in 2006 to motivate high performance scientists, engineers and others in recognition of contribution in advanced critical technologies and state-of-the-art space and ground systems, products and services and management.

New Delhi, Aug 13: President APJ Abdul Kalam will address the nation on the eve of Independence Day tomorrow at 1900 hrs.The PIB has made special arrangements to webcast the President's address in collaboration with the National Information Centre,says a PIB release here.The webcast will be available on www.pib.nic. simulteniously with its telecast on Doordarshan, according to the release.The Prime Minister's address from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Independence Day will also be webcast.....

India will get nuclear material from Moon:Kalam

Ambur, Tamil Nadu, Sep 4: President A P J Abdul Kalam today said India would soon compete with other nations in bringing nuclear materials from the moon to the earth.India would send a 50-kg satellite to the moon by 2007 end to study its characteristics and geology. ''As the moon has got fantastic nuclear material to generate nuclear energy, there is big competition among nations to bring it to Earth.
