Kamat vows to develop 'people-friendly' govt in Goa

Panaji, June 8: Hours after the oath-taking ceremony, new Chief Minister of Goa D V Kamat today vowed to develop a 'people-friendly' government in the state for the uplift of the common man and asserted that he would spare no effort to resolve all 'burning issues', including the garbage menace.

''My government will be the commonman's government and I will try to make it more people-friendly,'' Mr Kamat told mediapersons shortly after the swearing-in at the Raj Bhawan.

Stating that he would ''strengthen'' the administration to meet the aspirations of public, the Chief Minister said he had convened a meeting of all bureaucrats, besides municipal officers to deal with the garbage problem on a priority basis.

He said he would ''undo'' land conversions effected by the previous government under the ''controversial'' Regional Plan-2011, besides trying to come out with a new regional plan acceptable to all.

Mr Kamat said he would consult all the coalition partners for the appointment of Deputy Chief Minister. The Cabinet may be expanded in 3-4 days, he added.
