Don't be fast on Twenty-20 cricket: Jayawardene to ICC

Chennai, Jun 8 (UNI) Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardene today cautioned the ICC not to go too fast on Twenty 20 cricket, which he termed was ''a good vehicle'' to take cricket to developing nations.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the Asian Cricket Council here, he said already there were reports that the Twenty 20 World Cup was being held too early.

''It's a good vehicle to take cricket to developing nations because it is fast, furious and short and everyone will enjoy it''.

''But I feel that we should not rush into things. Cricket is all about managing and improving the skills. I don't like bowlers getting thrashed and spinners clobbered. We have to look at these aspects...No need to rush things. We need to be a bit careful'', he added.

To a question on what the basic requirement he was looking for while finding a successor to Coach Tom Moody, he said ''It's important that you have a coach who will complement the team. The coach should have good relations with the players''.

''Tom (Moody) had excellent relations. He showed us a different path and made the players mentally tough. The coach should be a person who improves us from now onwards'', Jayawardene said.
