UP: 12 die, 36 injured in bus accident

Ghaziabad, June 8: At least 12 people were killed on the spot and 36 others injured when a private bus rammed into a tree in Hafizpur police station area in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh.

Senior superindentent of police Deepak Ratan said, the accident took place when the bus, on its way from Meerut to Bulandshaher, lost control and rammed into a tree while trying to overtake a truck this morning. Twelve passengers, including two children and a woman died on the spot and 36 others were grievously injured.

The injured were admitted to the Hapur Government Hospital with the help of the local people. The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem, he added.

Senior police and district officials have reached the site and are taking stock of the situation, the SSP said.
