Administration is fully geared up for Ullal bypoll

Mangalore, Jun 1: Arrangements have been put in place for a peaceful byelections to the Ullal assembly constituency in Karnataka tomorrow with five candidates in the fray.

Polling would commence at 0700 hrs and close at 1700 hrs.

Counting would take place on June five.

Polling authorities have identified 56 of the 140 polling booths as hyper sensitive, and 70 others have been marked sensitive.

According to official sources, police security in the hyper sensitive booths would be enhanced with the incusion of a para military force personnel.

The election was necessitated by the death of Congress member U T Fareed. The congress had pitted his son T khader in the fray and opposing him would be Chandrashekar Uchil of the BJP, who lost to Mr Fareed in the last elections. BJP coalition partner JD(S) too had put up a candidate in Mr. Aboobakkar Natekal in an attempt to divide the muslim votes. Others in the fray were Balakrishna Shetty of CPI (M) and Bharatraraj Shetty, an independent.
