SVIMS nod for new building

Hyderabad, May 22 (UNI) The Governing Council meeting of the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) which was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy approved SVIMS' proposal for construction of university administrative building in the 90 acre land allotted at Renigunta.

The meeting also decided to shift the entire university administration to the new complex besides starting a college of Pharmacy and Institute of Genetics.

The building would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs ten crore to be wholly met by the university, an official press release said.

The chief minister directed the SVIMS to increase superannuation age of regular faculty to 62 years. He also agreed in principle enhancment of faculty allowances with the approval of the Finance Committee.

On new academic courses introduced, SVIMS Director G Subrahmanyam explained to the Chief Minister the progress of the institute in the last six months. The Medical Council of India and GOI had permitted starting of DM Endocrinology course.

Only seen institutions in the country had been given this permission by the MCI, he claimed.
