Lucknow, May 22 (UNI) Serial blasts rocked Gorakhpur in quick succession this evening, injuring five people at least. Principal Secretary (Home) K Chandramauli told UNI here that at least five people were injured in the three explosions within five minutes duration between 1900 hrs to 1915 hrs at a petrol pump, Baldev Plaza Market and Hotel York in the town.
He informed that the explosives were crude and thus did not cause much damage.
The explosives were placed in tiffin boxes secreted on three newly-purchased bicycles.
Meanwhile, senior officials had rushed to the spot and a high alert sounded in the state.
The internationl border that UP shares with Nepal and all other sensitive places in the state have been put on high alert, Mr Chandramauli added.
''This could be the handiwork of some petty criminals, but investigations are on,'' he said.
Asked if there was a pattern in such blasts, since most of these incident occurred on Tuesday -- a day holy for the Hindus, the official maintained that anything could be said only after a probe.
