Protesters demand release of activists

Tirupati, May 22 (UNI) Demanding release of the party activists who were arrested during the 'Bhooporatam' taken up in temple town and surrounding areas, all party leaders and activists, except BJP and Congress, observed 'blind protest' by covering their eyes with a black cloth here today.

A large number of activists led by CPM District Secretary K Murali, CPI leader Raja Reddy and TDP local leaders also raised slogans against the state government. They alleged that police arrested poor, homeless persons who were protesting in a peaceful manner which was a Constitutional right.

They demanded the government to arrest mafia leaders and land grabbers, who occupied the government lands in the state instead of arresting innocent poor people.

The struggle would continue in a massive way if the government did not react postively to distribution of house sites to the poor people, they warned.

Sen Biden intends to run for US President 2008

Washington, Dec 27: Delaware Sen Joseph Biden, one of the Democratic party's leading voices on foreign policy and a sharp critic of President George W. Bush's handling of the Iraq war, said he intends to run for president in 2008. ''It is my intention to seek the nomination, and it's my intention sometime in the month of January to set up the appropriate mechanism to be able to raise money for that purpose,'' Biden said.....
