Over 51 lakh ration cards prepared in Haryana

Chandigarh, May 22 (UNI) As many as 51.54 lakh ration cards of Above Poverty Line (APL), Below Poverty Line (BPL) and Antodya Ann Yojana (AAY) schemes have been prepared in the state having 2.36 crore units.

There were 45 lakh ration cards in the state in March 2005, when the Congress government had assumed office, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan said today.

He said out of total ration cards 43.28 lakh ration card belonged to the Above Poverty Line, 5.34 lakh to the Below Poverty Line while 2.91 lakh ration cards had been prepared under the Antodya Ann Yojana scheme.

Giving the district wise details of the ration cards of various categories prepared by Food and Supplies Department, he said Ambala had prepared 2.53 lakh, Bhiwani 3.35 lakh, Faridabad 5.77 lakh, Fatehabad 2.04 lakh, Gurgaon 2.10 lakh, Hisar 3.41 lakh, Jind 2.50 lakh, Jhajjar 2.01 lakh, Karnal 3.26 lakh, Kaithal 2.38 lakh, Kurukshetra 2.01 lakh, Mewat 2.09 lakh, Narnaul 1.85 lakh, Panipat 2.59 lakh, Panchkula 1.09 lakh, Rohtak 2.28 lakh, Rewari 1.80 lakh, Sirsa 2.81 lakh, Sonepat 2.86 lakh and Yamunanagar 2.71 lakh.

Election Commission to review ration card as an identity proof

Mumbai, Apr 2 (ANI): Election Commissioner S.Y. Quraishi has said that the poll panel would consider whether the ration card could be used as a valid identity proof during the upcoming national elections."This has been pointed out that ration card doesn't have a photograph and it is considered objectionable.
