NTPC contractual workers to go on ceasework agitation

Angul, May 22 (UNI) Hundreds of contractual workers engaged in 3000MW NTPC-Kaniha plant will go on cease work agitation indefinitely from May 25 demanding rationalisation of their daily wage structure to bring at par with the regular workers.

All India Power Men's Federation General Secretary Samar Sinha described the wages for contractual workers at Kaniha as one of the lowest among NTPC plants in the country.

He said all the contractual workers engaged in and outside of the NTPC plant were entitled for equal pay for equal works adding that there was no point of giving a paltry Rs 55 to the contractual workers and at the same time Rs 270 to regular workers for the same nature of works.

Over 2650 contractual workers were working in the power plant which provides power to as many seventeen states.

Militants kidnap 3 Indian oil workers in Nigeria

Port Harcourt (Nigeria), May 19: Suspected militants armed with dynamite and machine guns kidnapped three Indian petrochemical workers from their residence in Nigeria's oil capital Port Harcourt today, the army said. The gunmen originally seized 10 workers, all employed by Indonesia's Indorama, but soldiers engaged them in a gunfight and rescued seven, a spokesman for the army in the region said. A Nigerian driver was killed in the crossfire. ''The militants invaded.....
