MP Cong criticises attack on journalist

Bhopal, May 22 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Congress today criticised the deadly assault on Hindi magazine India Today's (Madhya Pradesh) Bureau Chief Ambreesh Mishra, who was beaten up by police and anti-social elements at Alkapuri area in the state capital on Sunday night.

In a statement here today, state Congress general secretary and spokesperson Manak Agrawal demanded that guilty policemen be dismissed and strict action be taken against other accused.

Mr Mishra and his friend Praveen Sisodia were thrashed by a girls hostel director Brajesh Shukla, accountant Abhay, hostel guard and constable Mahendra Pathak, who was on leave.

Mr Mishra and Mr Sisodia were severely injured and admitted to J P Hospital.

Mr Chouhan had visited Mr Mishra and Mr Sisodia at hospital last evening.

Prior to that, Director General of Police A R Pawar had visited Mr Mishra.

Police constable Mahendra Pathak, hostel director Brajesh Shukla and hostel accountant Abhay Ojha had been arrested in this connection, while Assistant Sub-Inspector Prem Shankar Singh and a constable was suspended.

A case of attempt to murder had been registered against the accused.
