Karnataka to continue its support to IT/BPO: HDK

Bangalore, May 22: Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy has asserted that the state will continue its support to the IT and BPO industry.

Announcing the 10th edition of Bangalore IT in-2007, which begins from October 29 to November 1, here last night, Mr Kumaraswamy said Karnataka, especially Bangalore city, had been the home for IT majors and the state government was committed to extend full support for the existing and the new players, who want to set up their development centres in the state.

''We are doing our best to improve the infrastructure to enable these companies to work in a conducive environment. We welcome IT companies, especially those in semiconductor field, to tier II and III cities like Mysore, Mangalore, Gulbarga, Hubli-Dharwad and Hassan. The companies will get extra benefits if they set up units in these cities,'' he said.

The state government had a special package for the semiconductor industry and they could also avail Centre's other incentives, he said.

He said Karnataka had registered a revenue of .3 billion in software exports, up 33 per cent, in the fiscal 2007 as against .5 billion last fiscal.

The IT industry provided direct employment to four lakh people, he said.

IT and BT Secretary M N Vidyashankar said the state government would launch Bidadi IT Park near Bangalore, which would be the biggest in the world. ''We are handing over 2500 acre of land for the first phase and the second phase would be built on another 7500 acre. The park will have all latest state-of-the art facilities needed for IT companies,'' he said.

He said the 2007 edition of BangaloreIT.in would see a congregation of thought leaders, business leaders, technology evangelists, market gurus, ventures capitalists and dignitaries from other nations.

The event would be held at Bangalore International Exhibition Center.

Hand over lakes to BDA, BBMP: H D Kumaraswamy

Bangalore, May 22: Government of Karnataka is now looking for stronger measures to safeguard the waterbodies. Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said, "the fortunes of Bangalore's lakes could be turned around by handing them over to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA)".Chief Minister said, "The Lake Development Authority (LDA) was entrusted with the rejuvenation of Puttenahalli Lake on a Rs Three-crore budget. However, not much is visible as on how the money has been.....
