Sirsi, Karnataka, May 23 (UNI) The fisher folk in this district today forcefully stopped the work on construction of the bund to prevent sea erosion along the Karwar coast, alleging that it would disturb their traditional profession.
Members of the Harikantra-Kharvi Cooperative Society President Prasadraju Karwarkar alleged that placing of huge boulders near the coast would disturb the fishermen to keep their boats and implements on the sea shore and also affect their daily activities. Instead the district administration should build a breakwater wall in the sea to stop strong ties hitting the coast.
He alleged that district administration had begun the works without discussing the matter with fishermen and urged the concerned to keep the natural beach intact. He cautioned the district administration that in case the works will continue, then they will resort to agitation.
