Panaji, May 22 (UNI) Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam today alleged that Election Commission officials in Goa were harassing candidates by sending notices and impounding their vehicles in the name of free and fair June 2 elections.

He alleged election officials are working at the behest of BJP and terrorising government officils.

Congesss spokesman Shataran Naik, who was also present at the media briefing, said the actions of Election Commission officials are not proper and highly objectionable. ''We will take the issue to the Election Commission,'' Mr Naik said.

They take action without issuing notices, he alleged.

He said election officials have to act in a democratic way and proper method needs to be followed before suspending or terminating officials.

Former Bihar Minister and All India Congress Committee Secretary Dr Shakeel Ansari, on the other hand, said Muslim voters of St Cruz, Valpoi, Ponda, Mormugao, Fatorda, Margao and Novalim had told him they were happy with the Congress government and would support the party to make it even more powerful.

Youth Congress President Girish Chodankar said his organisation become active in different constituencies and will slug it out to defeat BJP in Goa. He said he would support independent candidate from Valpoi Vishwajit Rane in the ensuing elections.
