Kochi, May 22 (UNI) The District Administration today started demolishing portions of bulidings which were built on encroached land along the Mahatma Gandhi (MG) Road here.
Ernakulam District Collector Mohammed Hanish said portions of eight buildings were demolished as the authorities had identified 25 buildings with illegal protrusions, today.
He said a large posse of police alongwith corporation and revenue officials were engaged in the process.
'' The owners of the illegal structures were given prior notice and ample time to remove the illegal part,'' the Collector added.
The process would continue in the coming days, he said.
The administration yesterday served the notices to 40 individual and commercial establishments that have encroached land and were given 24 hours to demolish the structures or give explanation to the authorities.
