Six members of Indian Army conquer Mt Everest

Lucknow, May 22: Six members of the Indian Army Mountaineering Expedition conquered the world's highest peak Mount Everest recently.

With this unprecedented feat, the Indian Army also furthered its formidiable reputation in the international mountaineering fraternity having summitted Mt Everest four times so far.

In the last seven years, Army mountaineers have scaled a 8000 Metre-plus peak almost every year -- Mt Everest (8848m) in 2001, 2003 and 2005, Annapurna (8096m) in 2002, Lhotse (8511m) in 2003 and Kanchenjunga (8586m) in 2004.

The Indian Army Mountaineering Expedition, led by Lt Col I S Thapa, was flagged off by Army Chief General J J Singh on March 20.

The Army summitteers were Captain D J Singh, Sub Maruti Khandagle, Hav Balwant Singh Negi, Hav Tshering Angchok, Hav Amardev Bhatt and Sep Sachin Patil.

Indian Army releases films on combat first aid

Lucknow, Dec 23: The Indian Army today released five short films on combat first aid with the aim of imparting knowledge regarding the risks and prevention of fatality among combatants. Losing life and limbs of combatants could be greatly avoided by imparting knowledge of basic first aid to the soldiers.
