AP Govt orders inquiry into police firing: YSR

Hyderabad, May 19: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajsekhara Reddy today said the government has ordered a 'Magisterial Enquiry' into the police firing, which claimed five lives, at the MoB protesting the blast at Mecca Masjid, here yesterday.

Addressing mediapersons, after organising an emergency Cabinet meeting, Dr Reddy said the government had ordered inquiry into the police firing. Action would be taken after the inquiry reports were submitted to the government.

Stating that the 'foreign terrorist groups' were involved in the bomb blast which left 16 people dead, including the five who sustained fatal bullet injuries in police firing, he said investigations into the incident were in progress.

''We can't reveal the vital clues of the investigation as the main culprits could escape once the information spilled out'', he said.

Denying that the state intelligence agencies had failed in curbing the terrorist attack, the Chief Minister said a minor incident was occured at Bhavani Nagar in the old city as some agitators pelted stones on the police, injuring two policemen.

''However, the law and order situation was under control at the Masjid premises after the police lobbed tear gas shells and dispursed the mobs,'' he said, adding that the government was closely monitoring the situation to restore normalcy.
