Goa BJP complains to EC against Narayan Rane

Panaji, May 19: The Goa BJP has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission against Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane for allegedly violating the election code of conduct in force in Goa.

Former Chief Minister and BJP leader Manohar Parrikar, while speaking to reporters here today, alleged that Mr Rane was moving around in vehicles equipped with sirens in Goa carrying people from Maharashtra for campaigning. The BJP has complained to the Election Commission in this regard, he said.

Dismissing the Goa Congress demand that the BJP should refrain from using the services of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Siddhu in its campaigning as he has been convicted in a case, Mr Parrikar said the Congress, instead, should prevent Mr Rane from campaigning in Goa as he has been ''involved in several acts of disruption''.

Mr Parrikar, meanwhile, urged authorities to check ''infiltration of anti-social elements from neighbouring Maharashtra from disrupting the election process at the instance of the Congress''.
