Bomb blast in Guwahati leaves 4 injured

Guwahati, May 18: At least four persons were injured when a bomb exploded in the Fancy Bazar area near the Guwahati jail today at around 1130 hours.

One of the victims was seriously injured and had been rushed to the MMC hospital near here.

The police confirmed that the bomb was kept in a rickshaw parked near the wall of the jail. They said the casualty figure was low due to the presence of the wall.

Police suspect it to be the handiwork of ULFA, which had attacked the area several times earlier.

''This is the first time that the outfit has exploded a bomb during day,'' police said.

Scared businessmen of the busy commercial hub of the region immediately shut down establishments for the day.

Guwahati, May 21: Terror-strucken Asom observed 'Anti-Terrorism Day' today amid sporadic incidents of violence which claimed five lives and injured more than 15 since last night. Altogether 15 people were injured, two of them critically, when ULFA militants exploded a grenade at the busy Paglastan area in Bongaigaon in lower Asom today.
