Nikkei down 0.2 pc before Sony results

Tokyo, May 16: The Nikkei average fell 0.23 percent on Wednesday as investors turned cautious before a series of earnings results including Sony Corp. later in the day and economic growth data for Japan due on Thursday.

The Nikkei finished the morning down 40.40 points at 17,472.58, and the broad TOPIX index shed 0.39 percent to 1,705.92.

Kabul, Dec 8 (ANI): An international think tank has said that the Taliban holds a permanent presence in 72 percent of Afghanistan, but NATO denied the observation, saying the figures were not credible. It said it was impossible for militants to control large parts of the country.The findings by the International Council on Security and Development (ICOS) come in the wake of a series of critical reports on Western-led military and development efforts to put an end to the seven-year Taliban.....

Aeon to invest $530mln in Daiei, Maruetsu: Nikkei

Tokyo, Mar 9: Aeon Co, Japan's second-biggest retailer, will spend 62 billion yen (9 million) to buy a 15 percent stake in supermarket chain Daiei Inc and 20 percent of Daiei's grocery subsidiary Maruetsu Inc, the Nikkei business daily reported on Friday.That would be some 55 percent more than the current prices for the stakes which total about 40 billion yen.Aeon, Daiei and trading house Marubeni Corp., which is Daiei's top shareholder, will jointly hold a briefing on capital tie-ups at 4:30.....
