TCA to support NE states for cricket

Agartala, May 15 (UNI) Tripura Cricket Association(TCA) has announced to extend support for development of cricket infrastructure and popularise the game in Mizoram and Manipur.

Talking to UNI here today, TCA Secretary Arindam Ganguly said Indian Cricket Board has initiated a project named- New Area Development Programme under which the northeastern states would be given priority.

Mr Ganguly added that barring Tripura and Asom no other state of Northeast has the affiliation of Cricket Board and, ''we are now asked to support the neighbouring states for development of cricket.'' Mr Ganguly had already visited Mizoram and Manipur while his Asom counterpart was visiting Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh to promote cricket and development of infrastructure.

The TCA secretary had sent his report to the board recommending them to send coaches and hold inter-state matches.

When Marcus North came on to bowl his first ball for Australia in Potchefstroom this week the ground announcer said it was "Phil Hughes taking up the attack".That caused some mirth.For the rest of the over his teammates were encouraging the West Australian batsman and off-spinner, yelling out "Come on Hughesy".An unknown when he got on the plane to South Africa, North will be much better known.....
