Gulbarga, May 15: Sugar cane farmers of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region will hold indefinite dharna in Bangalore from June 6, demanding the State Government to take steps to contain suicides by sugercane farmers in the region.
Talking to newsmen here, Raitha Horata Samithi President Kedarnath Hiremath alleged that no steps had been taken by the government to check the on going suicides by farmers mainly due to non-lifting of sugar cane by the Sugar factories.
He regretted that 22 sugercane farmers had committed suicide in the district during the last three months.
''The Samithi is demanding the government to release Rs 500 crores to the region to meet the crisis. We also demand pay Rs One lakh as compensation to the members of the bereaved family members."
