Sugar prices rise further on increased demand

Mumbai, May 15 (UNI) Sugar prices rose further today on increased demand, traders at the Bombay Sugar Merchant's Association said.

Sugar in small and medium grades was up by Rs five and Rs ten per quintal respectively on better buying support.

Sugar in ex-mill small and medium grades went up by Rs five and Rs 20 per quintal respectively on reduced stock supply.

Following are the spot wholesale rates per quintal: Small grade Rs 1,313/1,350, Medium grade Rs 1,345/1,410, Ex-mill: Small grade Rs 1,300/1,325, Medium grade Rs 1,335/1,350.

Pension of freedom fighters increased

New Delhi, Dec 16: The government has increased the basic pension for freedom fighters and their spouses by Rs 2330 per month from October this year. According to Home Ministry, in October 2006, the basic pension of freedom fighters and spouses of deceased freedom fighters was enhanced by Rs 2,330 per month, so that the total pension, inclusive of dearness relief, becomes Rs 10,001 per month. The date of giving effect to this enhancement.....
