RS adjourned on violence on Madurai media attack

New Delhi, May 15: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 1400 hrs when members of AIADMK and DMK Ministers clashed in the House over the attacks on a media house in Madurai in Tamil Nadu last week.

Soon after Question Hour, AIADMK leader P G Narayanan was allowed by the Chair to raise the issue but before he could begin his submission, there were objections and unruly scenes in the House when Government Chief Whip Narayanasamy and Union Surface Transport Minister T R Baalu stood up to object allowing of the discussion.

Several AIADMK MPs, including the lone woman member, rushed into the well of the House trying to argue that a minister can't pose hurdles and disrupt the functioning of the House. ''It is my duty to control the minister please go back to your seats and allow the House to function,'' Deputy Chairman K Rehman Khan ruled.

He also told the ruling party benches that Rajya Sabha Chairman had allowed the notice and he was duty-bound to allow the AIADMK to raise the issue for five minutes and they should cooperate. He also threatened to name AIADMK MP Perumal if he did not behave properly.

No sooner did Mr Narayanan mention the Madurai violent attack on the Sun TV and Dinakaran office resulting the death of a couple of individuals, then an adamant Baalu stood and the AIADMK members were back in the well and the House was adjourned till 1400 hrs.

AIIMS RDA continues indefinite fast, more docs join

New Delhi, Dec 16: Four more members of the AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association today joined the indefinite fast, launched by the RDA yesterday in protest against the passage of the OBC Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha.
