Raising reserved seats in MP recommended

Bhopal, May 15 (UNI) The Delimitation Commission has recommended increasing the number of reserved Lok Sabha and assembly constituencies in tribal-dominated Madhya Pradesh.

After redrawing boundaries of 230 assembly constituencies, the Commission suggested that the number of assembly seats reserved for Scheduled Caste be increased from 34 to 35 and those reserved for Scheduled Tribes from 41 to 47.

Likewise, out of 29 Lok Sabha seats, the number of reserved seats for SCs should be increased from four to five. However, the number of seats reserved for STs remained unchanged at four.

Meanwhile, a New Delhi-based Delimitation Commission spokesperson told UNI that a report would be submitted to the Centre within a fortnight.

Completing its delimitation exercise, the Commission had notified its recommendations yesterday.

On whether the 2008 assembly elections in the state would take place under the new arrangement, he said the Commission's role was confined to demarcating boundaries.

The Centre had to decide whether to conduct the elections as per the new arrangement.
