Pondy CM visits gale-hit villages

Puducherry, May 15 (UNI) Chief Minister N Rangasamy today visited the gale-hit villages in Mannadipet and Tirubuvanai Assembly constituencies here today and consoled the victims.

Crops were damaged and overhead power lines thrown away when strong winds hit the villages last night. Four people were killed in a wall collapse during the inclement weather.

After touring the affected villages, Mr Rangasamy told newsmen a sum of Rs 50,000 would be given to each bereaved family under a scheme operated by Revenue and Disaster Management Departments. Each injured person would get Rs 5,000.

As many 200 huts were lost and each affected family would Rs 6,000 to rebuild them, he said adding an assessment of the crop damage was underway.

Arikkamedu to become a tourist destination

Puducherry, Apr 21: The Puducherry administration is taking steps to make Arikkamedu, a place of historical importance here, a tourist hotspot, Chief Minister N Rangasamy told the Territorial Assembly today. Replying to a question from PMK member R K R Anantharaman, he said the administration would obtain a loan and take necessary steps during the current financial year. The Chief Minister said HUDCO had been appointed the consultant for the scheme and it had given a draft plan at an estimated cost.....
