1old age home in every district is needed: Mehdele

Bhopal, May 15: Madhya Pradesh Social Justice Minister Kusum Mehdele has stressed on the need for setting up at least one old age home in every district.

Ms Mehdele, while addressing a state-level committee formed to look into the overall welfare of old people here yesterday, directed for constituting a committee for social and economic development and rehabilitation of old people.

She said a 'Vridh Jan Panchayat' would be held on September 1 for resolving problems of old people and for implementing policy for the aged.

The committee would present its recommendations within 15 days.

During the meeting, policy for the aged would be discussed.

Ms Mehdele also directed to constitute a 'Vridh Nagrik Manch' in every district and conduct its meeting between June 15 and 20.

She said special attention must be paid for the welfare of old women in the proposed 'Vridh Jan' policy.

The Minister assured that pension would be provided to old women and arrangement of rest house for old people would be made in the state capital.

She directed to prepare a proposal for increasing social security pension. Efforts would be made that problems of old people were resolved at the district-level.

No consular access to indians in Pak jail: Pranab

New Delhi, Mar 14:  The government today informed the Lok Sabha that at least 92 Indian civilian prisoners in Pakistani jails have yet not been given consular access."Besides 390 fishermen and 149 civilian prisoners and 74 PoWs are still languishing in Pakistani jails," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee said in a written reply.The minister was asked whether the government had any reports of inhuman treatment meted out to Indian prisoners in Paksitan.The minsiter said Indian prisoners released by Pakistan had reported.....
