Lucknow, May 15 (UNI) Owning moral responsibilty for the shameful performance of the BJP in the Assembly elections, senior party leader Kalyan Singh today resigned from the post of in charge, Uttar Pradesh affairs.

Mr Singh, who was projected as the party nominee for the post of the Chief Minister, sent his resignation to national president Rajnath Singh.

Thanking the party leadership for having reposed faith in him, the former UP Chief Minister said the party did not fare well and the results were far below the party expectations.

Mr Singh suggested the total revamping of the party organisation right from district level to state level and said the preparations for the 2009 Lok Sabha elections should be launched from now.

The senior party leader also asked the national president to spend at least three days for introspection into the poll reverses.

All praise for the party workers for the hard work they had put in during the seven-phase UP polls, Mr Singh asked them not to be disheartened as the future belonged to the BJP.

In its worst-ever performance in the recent polls, the BJP could muster 50 seats, becoming the third largest party in the assembly.
