Infiltration-bid foiled by BSF

Jammu, May 15 (UNI) The Border Security Force (BSF) has foiled an infiltration bid by the armed militants from the International Border (IB) in R S Pura sector near here, official spokesman today said.

At about 0015 hrs, a group of armed militants tried to infiltrate into Indian territory through IB near Khatmariyan border out post, the spokesman said.

When challaged by the BSF night patrolling party, militants resorted to firing with automatic weapons, he said.

''our troops also retaliated immediately. The bullet exchange continued for 15 minutes. But the intruders managed to escape to the Pakistani side taking cover of darkness and thick vegetation,'' he said, adding that no one was hurt in the exchange of fire.

US Senate Democrats want Iraq war deadline: Reid

Washington, May 15: US Senate Democrats want to spell out a time frame to withdraw combat troops from Iraq, but might offer President George W Bush power to waive the deadlines, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said.''We've not, on this side of aisle, lost sight of the fact the American people have concluded the president's Iraq policy has failed and we're demanding a new way forward,'' said Reid, of Nevada yesterday, who a few weeks.....
