HPL net rises by 95 per cent

Kolkata, May 15(UNI) Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd (HPL) has reported a 95 per cent increase in net profit at Rs 584 crore during 2006-07 from Rs 300 crore in the previous year.

The company's financial results which were announced today showed a 21 per cent growth in total income at Rs 8,376 crore during the period as against Rs 6,928 crore in 2005-06.

Operating profit shot up by 25 per cent to Rs 1421 crore as compared to Rs 1,138 crore in the previous year.

HPL Managing Director Swapan Bhowmik said the company was planning to expand its market share, increase production capacity and enhance competitiveness in future.

HPL is a joint venture project with Government of West Bengal, The Chatterjee Group, Tatas and Indian Oil Corporation as major stakeholders.

Four ships damage a bridge in Surat, no casualties reported

Surat, Feb 11 (ANI): A bridge connecting various industries in Surat was damaged after being hit accidentally by four ships on Wednesday.The Magdalla-Hazira bridge on the Tapti river in the state bore the brunt of the collision after four ships of the AGB shipyard hit it.No casualties were reported in the incident that took place at around 3:00 a.m.The authorities have stopped the flow of traffic while the investigation is on."The stability of the.....
