Historical documents on display at exhibition

Kozhikode, May 15 (UNI) Historical documents showcasing Presidential proclamations seizing power from the Kerala Rajapramukh in 1956 and dismissing the first elected Communist Government in the country in 1959, were on display at an exhibition here.

Kerala Land Protection Bill 1957, the Chief Minister's letter addressed to then Home Minister Govind Ballabh Pant regarding the Bill, the Kerala Gaming Bill 1957 and the Kerala Education Bill 1957, were some of the other rare documents displayed at the three-day exhibit at the Town Hall.

The programme conducted by the Department of Archives in association with the Information and Public Relations Department and the District Panchayat also mounted newspaper clippings on the Liberation Struggles spearheaded by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee against the Government.

Photograph depicting the first Kerala Cabinet with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the first ministerial meeting presided over by Chief Minister E M S Namboodiripad were some of the other attractions at the exhibition inaugurated by Kozhikode Mayor M Bhaskaran yesterday.
