Govt to formulate scheme for destitute women

New Delhi, May 15 (UNI) Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Chowdhury today said that a scheme would be drawn for the rehabilitation of destitute women in the country.

Ms Chowdhury, who visited destitute women at old age homes here on the occasion of World Family Day, said that the scheme would be drawn in collaboration with the state governments. She also explained the existing welfare plans for women.

She personally checked all facilities being provided to the inmates and spent more than one hour with them. The Minister also took a medical team with herself for health check ups of the inmates of old age homes. She distributed fruits, tonics and medicines and had a cup of tea with them.

Polio resurface in K'taka

Bangalore, Dec 5: Health officials have launched an intense immunisation programme here and in Ramanagar district following detection of a Polio case. This is for the first time that a polio case was detected after a gap of three years. In 2003, polio cases were detected in Bellary district and the state had been declared polio-free since 2004.
