Barrackpore, May 15: Police today seized a six-feet-long carcass of a Porpoise at Icchapur area under Noapara police station in North 24 Parganas.
The porpoise, a marine animal similar to Dolphins, was reportedly trapped by a fisherman in the Hooghly river in the wee hours today near Debitala Ghat, where a large number of crowd thronged to have a glimpse of this rare species.
Police said they have informed the forest department in this regard.
The matter was reported to the police by a local municipal councillor this morning.
Police said action would be taken against the fisherman, who sold the porpoise in Icchapur market without informing them.
