K'taka: 250 fell ill after eating dinner at a Fair

Bijapur, May 15: About 250 people took ill after eating dinner at a Fair at Kashinakunta village in Muddebihal Taluk last night.

District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Gotigal said that within minutes of taking their dinner people developed stomach pain and started vomiting.

All the affected had been taken to Kalagi and Nidgundi Primary Health Centres for treatment, since there was no proper facility they were shifted to Bijapur Civil Hospital.

More than 25 Doctors engaged in treating them and the condition of those admitted were reported to be out of danger.

Minister for Textile Appa Pattanashetty, who is also District Incharge Minister visited the Civil Hospital. Later he told newsmen that a through enquiry would be held to find out how the food was poisoned. In future the District Administration would be asked to check the food arranged in Fairs.

Narcotics have irreversible effect on the mentally ill

Washington, Feb 6 (ANI): A new study has found that drugs can have an adverse impact on the brains of people suffering from mental illness.According to Dr. Stephane Potvin of the Universite de Montreal affiliated Centre de recherche Fernand-Seguin at the Louis-H Lafontaine Hospital, nearly 33 to 50 percent of psychiatric patients also suffer from drug addiction.The drug consumption leads to deterioration of cerebral structures."They become dependant more quickly and they tend to abuse drugs more.....
