2 militants arrested, war like stores recovered in Kashmir

Srinagar May 15 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir police arrested two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and Al-Badr outfits and recovered war like stores in the Kashmir valley.

One boy was injured in an explosion in north Kashmir.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara, said police conducted a search operation after receiving an information about the presence of militants at Kupwara early this morning.

During the operation, police arrested Shabir Ahmed Bhat alias Owais Karim of HM outfit and Hilal Ahmad Bhat of Al-Badr.

He said Shabir had joined militancy in 2001 and was involved in several militancy related incidents. One AK-47 rifle, four Magazines and 110 rounds of ammunition have been recovered from his possession.

Police also recovered one hand grenade and a wireless from the possession of Hilal.

A police spokesman said an explosion took place near the house of one Ashiq Ahmad Mir at Sunderpora Lone Harie causing injuries to his son Adil Ahmad Mir. He has been hospitalised.

Troops of 20-JAK Rifles stationed at Chuntwaliwar Machil recovered a large quantity of arms ammunition in the general area of Bohinar near the Line of Control (LoC).

The recovery included, One Pika gun, four AK-47 rifles, one AK rifle-Bulgaria make, two 30 MM Mouser Pistols, three UBGL's , 13 AK Magazines, three pistol magazine, three wireless sets, 141 rounds Pika ammunition, 1415 rounds AK ammunition, 63 rounds OF Pistol ammunition and 400 grams Charas.

However, no one was arrested, spokesman said.

Puducherry: VPPA to organise 24-hr bandh on Mar 15

Puducherry, Mar 14:  The Federation of Village Panchayat Presidents Associations will organise a 24-hour bandh here tomorrow, to press the government for the devolution of powers to the elected local body representatives in the Union Territory.Powers to the local body representatives were not devolved even after eight months of the civic elections here, which were held after a gap of 38 years.The MDMK, DPI, CPI(ML) and Tamizhar Desiya Iyyakkam have extended their support to the bandh.Meanwhile, police spruced up security arrangements.....
