Sania slips out of top-50 in WTA rankings

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) India's tennis ace Sania Mirza, who is making a comeback from a two-month long injury lay off, has dropped two places down the ladder to 51st in the latest WTA rankings released today.

Mirza, 20, returns to action in the WTA event in Morocco after being sidelined by knee injury in Doha in February. Sania (503 ranking points) was placed 49 in the rankings last week.

Among other Indian women, Shikha Uberoi remained static at 247th while Sunitha Rao dropped two places to 253rd.

Atop the table, Justin Henin of Belgium continued to hold on to her numero uno position while Russian beauty Maria Sharapova was second. Fellow Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova overtook Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo to grab the third spot.

Meanwhile, in the men's ATP Doubles race, Leander Paes and his Czech partner Martin Damm hung on to their second spot behind Bob and Mike Bryan of the US.

Leander also moved up to one spot to sixth in the ATP Doubles rankings, topped yet again by Bryan brothers.
