PCC to observe "Nandigram protest day" in Tamluk on May 19

Kolkata, May 14 (UNI) The West Bengal Pradesh Congress Committee and the East Midnapore district Congress Committee would jointly organise a rally to observe 'Nandigram protest day' at Tamluk in East Midnapore on May 19.

''We would provide some financial assistance to those who were injured on March 14 in Nandigram and also to the bereaved families.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee is also extending its help to provide financial assistance to the victims,'' Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Manas Bhuniya told reporters in the Assembly premises here today.

He said former Kerala Chief Minister Oomen Chandi, KPCC president Ramesh Chennathalia, former PCC president Somen Mitra, Congress working president Pradip Bhattacharjee and several leaders would be present in the rally.

Mr Bhuniya also alleged that party MLA of Berhampore Manoj Chakraborty was physically assaulted by IC Dilip Ganguly and OC Kartick Majhi, but the government and the district administration did not take any action against them.

''I had met Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim and Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy and urged them for conducting an administrative inquiry against the IC and the OC but no step has been taken against them,'' he said.

''We are demanding intervention of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in this regard, immediate suspension of the IC and the OC, and a high level inquiry into the incidents,'' the CLP leader observed.

''We will take out a privilege motion against the incidents in the coming Assembly session,'' he added.

To a query on the party's stand on the all party meeting on Nandigram issue, Mr Bhuniya replied '' We have not yet received any official communication from the government for the participation and will decide about it only after receiving the participation call.'' UNI
