Last opportunity for 1984 victims to apply for Red Cards

Chandigarh, May 14 (UNI) The Punjab Government has given a last opportunity to all the 1984 riot affected families in the State to submit their applications within one month from the date of advertisement which would be released soon, to get Red Cards.

A Cabinet Sub-Committee held here today under the Chairmanship of Mr Manoranjan Kalia, Local Government and Industries Minister decided to give one more chance to those riot victims of 1984 who had lost their Red Cards. Now they could also apply within one month from the date of advertisement, for duplicate Red Cards.

It also decided to release Rs Two lakh each to 347 cases found correct after due verification out of the 662 claims received.

Giving details, the minister said that the benefits which were being given by the state government to riot affected persons of 1984 includes, Ex-Gratia grant of Rs 2 lakh for rehabilitation, free education upto M.A. for their children in Punjab Government colleges, reservation of two per cent seats in Technical Education Institutes, five per cent reservation at the time of allotment of booths and houses by PUDA. Beneficiary could avail benefit for one time only, he added.
